A SHORT HISTORY
When the Penrith Gaels Cultural & Sporting Association club opened in 1997, social darts were held on Friday nights. Larry Cooper and John Grieve started the social darts at the club and the darts are still running strong today. Tony O’Neil and Rick Ellwood currently run the social Friday night darts and we always looks forward to new comers. Friday night has always been fun with emphasis on the craic rather than the quality of the dart thrown.
In 1998 Trevor Bartlett formed a team for a Thursday night competition and under the banner of the Penrith Gaels, entered the Lower Blue Mountains Darts Associations competition. Later the same year from the thriving Friday night social darts emerged two more teams that joined Trevor in the Lower Blue mountains Competition playing as the Penrith Gaels.
Since then we have grown in strength winning various grand finals. Our first grand final winning team was Gaels 2 coming in 1999 winning division two. Currently we have seven teams and have the current Division One Champions Gaels 7 winning the last winter and summer competition grand finals backed up by Gaels 4 winning the division two Grand Final and we were represented in the finals of division 4.
